We will no longer be posting updates on the Canyon Kids Blog. Instead we have started giving handouts at the end of class. So if you want to know what your kids are learning in their classes, be sure to take a look at the handouts they bring home. You can even help them work on them during the week!

Nursery
Babies at Canyon Church are shown the love of God by being played with, held and cared for!
Walkers
The kids are going through a series with Boz the Bear, "Thank you God for Friends and Helpers." Today they watched "Doing Our Fair Share" and learned how to serve others.
Bible Story:
The kids also read John 13: 1-16, where Jesus washes the disciples' feet. Jesus shows that it is important to help one another.
Live It:
This week, look for ways you can help a friend or family member in need.
Preschool
The kids started a series with Lil'K, “I Can Talk to God.” Today they learned the story of Jonah in the Big Fish, and that they can talk to God anywhere.

Jonah in the Big Fish, Jonah 1-2

Elementary (K - 5th Grade)
Currently we are combining all Elementary classes. This group will be split into smaller classes as attendance continues to grow.
The kids are in a series called "Treasure Quest." Today’s lesson was on A Trusting Heart. Each child learned that as they seek after Jesus, they will learn to trust Him more and more. He will be the One they can count on to guide and strengthen them in all areas of their lives.
Key Point:
The more I learn about Jesus, the more I can trust Him.
Bible Story: Matthew 8:5-13
One day, Jesus was traveling to the city of Capernaum. The servant of a captain in the Roman army was very sick and close to dying. When the captain heard that Jesus would be coming his way, the captain went seeking after Jesus. He had faith and knew that Jesus could heal his servant. When the captain found Jesus, the captain told Jesus that he believed and trusted that He could heal his servant just by Jesus’ words; and that He did not even need to come to his house to heal his servant! Jesus was impressed with the captain’s faith and trust in Him. He had not seen faith like this. So, Jesus told the captain to go home, his servant would be well again because he believed and trusted Jesus. The servant was healed that very hour.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

This Sunday the kids watched Boz the Bear’s Double Peppy Pizza. They learned that God’s colorful fruits and vegetables are great to eat.

Preschool
This Sunday the kids watched Boz the Bear’s Scrubbly Bubbly Clean. They learned that God wants the people that know Him and love Him to be clean on the inside by obeying Him. A good reminder is to be clean on the outside too.
The kids also read the Easter story from their Children’s Bible. Next week, they will be starting a new Preschool curriculum!

The kids finished up a series called "Get Ready for Easter." The children learned that Jesus came back to life after He was crucified and that this is the joy of the Easter celebration. They learned that they can share this good news with others by telling them what Jesus has done.
Bible Story: Matthew 27:57-66 & 28:1-7, John 20:11, 14-18
“It is finished!” Those were Jesus’ last words as He hung on the cross. A man named Joseph went to Pilate after Jesus had died and asked him if he could take Jesus’ body and bury Him. Pilate agreed. Joseph took the body of Jesus and put Him in his tomb which was carved out of a very large rock, kind of like a cave. Then Joseph rolled a large rock in front of the tomb to seal it up. At the demand of the Jewish leaders, Pilate posted guards around Jesus’ tomb. These soldiers were there when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. As they got closer to the tomb, they felt the earth shake as an angel rolled back the stone and sat on it. The angel’s appearance was so bright that the guards fell unconscious. The angel told the women, “Do not be afraid. I know you are looking for Jesus, but He is not here. He has risen, just as He said.” The angel sent the women to tell this good news to all the others, including the disciples. Mary Magdalene went back to the empty tomb and began to cry. She heard someone say her name. As she looked up, she saw it was Jesus. She was so excited. She ran to find the disciples. Jesus really was alive!
The Child’s Prayer:
Dear Jesus, This is the best part about Easter. You came back to life. Nothing is impossible with You. I can trust You to help me with anything. I want You to always be a part of my life. This week I will share Your good news with a friend. Amen.

Walkers/Preschool
Currently we are combining the Walkers and Preschool classes as there have been a small number of children in these classes. We are watching attendance closely and as this class grows, are ready to split the Preschoolers into their own classrooms.
The kids are going through a series with Boz the Bear, "Colors and Shapes Lessons." Today they watched "A Busy Body Day" and learned that God helps us grow stronger as we play with our friends.

This classroom will also be split into smaller classes as attendance continues to grow.
The kids are in a series called "Get Ready for Easter." Today, each child heard about Jesus as He was led away to be crucified. They saw that He went through great pain and suffering in order to pay the price for our sins. They learned that through belief in Jesus, the gift of salvation is made available to all who believe.
Bible Story: Matthew 27:26-50
It was hard to believe that only a few days ago people were welcoming and praising Jesus as He came into Jerusalem. He was received as a king. Now, Jesus was being brought in to trial after trial and the people wanted to have Him killed. The Roman soldiers laughed at Jesus and beat Him with a whip 39 times across His back. They jokingly put a purple robe and crown made of thorns on Jesus to make fun of Him being a king. Then they made Him carry a heavy wooden cross on His back while the angry crowd yelled out at Him. During this cruel time there were also good people who loved Jesus, who followed Him and cried for Him. When Jesus fell and could no longer carry His cross, a man named Simon took it and carried it for Him up to Golgotha where the soldiers nailed Jesus’ hands and feet to the wooden cross. The cross was placed upright in the ground and as Jesus hung on a cross, the soldiers played a game to see who would win Jesus’ clothes. Jesus was crucified with two thieves, one on His right and one on His left. One of the thieves believed Jesus was the son of God. While Jesus was on the cross, He told the thief who believed in Him that He would see him in heaven later on. As Jesus hung on the cross, an eerie darkness settled over the land. Jesus cried out “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” Then Jesus died.
The Child’s Prayer:
Dear Jesus, I am so glad You died on the cross for me. Your suffering was payment for my sins. I believe that You are God’s Son and I will be able to live with You forever in heaven. This week, if I haven’t already asked Jesus to be the boss of my life, I will take the steps necessary to find out more about what it means to believe in Jesus so I will have a place in heaven with Him. Amen.

God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in Him will not die but will have eternal life.

They learned that He did not fight or argue, but remained silent and fully trusted in God’s plan. They will understand that sometimes they are falsely accused or made fun of, but they have the power to remain silent, just as Jesus did.
Bible Story: Matthew 26:57-26:68 & Matthew 27:1-2, 11-25
After Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, He was taken to the house of Caiaphas, who was the main religious leader at the time. Caiaphas had several other leaders at his house and they sat around trying to think of people who would lie about Jesus so they could put Him to death. They found two people who said they heard Jesus claim that He was God. Caiaphas turned to Jesus and said, “Aren’t you going to answer these men who are accusing you?” The Bible says that Jesus remained silent, even though they were lying about Him. Caiaphas was so mad he yelled at Jesus, “I demand that you tell us if you are God’s Son!” Jesus said that He was God’s Son. Caiaphas was so mad he turned to the other people in his house and asked for a verdict—guilty or not guilty. They all shouted “Guilty! He must die!” Jesus remained silent. They took Him, hit him in the face, spit on Him, and made fun of Him. Jesus remained silent. They then took Jesus to the Roman Governor, Pilate. Pilate questioned Him just like the chief priests did, but Jesus still remained silent.
At the same time each year there was a custom in the land that the Governor would release one prisoner from jail. This year there was a man in prison for murder named Barabbas. As the crowds gathered before Pilate’s house that morning, he asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you, Barabbas or Jesus?” The crowd shouted back, “Barabbas!” Pilate said, “If I release Barabbas to you, what should I do with Jesus?” The crowd said, “Crucify Him.” Pilate knew that Jesus had not committed a crime, but he was a coward and a riot was developing. So, Pilate sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this man. (That was Pilate’s way of saying that he did not want to take responsibility for what was happening.) The responsibility is yours!” All the people yelled back, “We will take responsibility for his death.”
The Child’s Prayer:
Dear Jesus, You know what it is like to be hurt and made fun of. Help me to trust You completely when bad or sad things happen in my life. Keep me from saying things in anger that could make a situation worse or hurt others. This week, help me to remember how You acted when You were accused of things You didn’t do. You were silent. Help me to be silent and not to argue or fight back. Amen

He turned to His Father in prayer for strength, peace and guidance. The kids learned that it is best to trust God, no matter what happens around them.
Bible Story: Matthew 26:17-50
During the Passover festival, Jesus and His disciples had a last meal together. He wanted them to remember Him. Jesus was troubled during this last supper because He knew one of His disciples would betray Him. None of the disciples knew who it was, but Jesus did. Jesus knew the one who would betray Him was Judas. Knowing this, Jesus told Judas to go and do what he must do. After saying this, Judas left to collect the 30 pieces of silver the high priests were going to pay him for betraying Jesus. Judas was also going to tell the high priests where Jesus would be so they could arrest Him.
When the supper was over, Jesus took some of his disciples out to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Jesus told them to stay at a spot so He could go off to pray by Himself. He took Peter, James and John with him to pray. Even though Jesus was God, His body was human and He knew what was going to happen to Him. He knew He was about to be arrested. He knew He was going to be beaten, and He knew He was going to die on the cross. Jesus knelt on the ground and prayed to His Father. “My Father, if there is any way, get me out of this. But please, not what I want. I want your will to be done.” Jesus got up from praying to find Peter, James and John all sleeping. He was hurt because they had fallen asleep when He was so sad. There was a large crowd with Judas armed with clubs and swords. Judas had told the chief priests that He would kiss the cheek of the one who should be arrested. After Judas kissed Jesus on the cheek, Jesus said, “My friend, why are you here?”

The kids are in a series called "Get Ready for Easter." Today the children learned that Jesus was aware of the pain and suffering that He was going to go through on the cross. He turned to His Father in prayer for strength, peace and guidance. The kids learned that it is best to trust God, no matter what happens around them.
Bible Story: Matthew 26:17-50
During the Passover festival, Jesus and His disciples had a last meal together. He wanted them to remember Him. Jesus was troubled during this last supper because He knew one of His disciples would betray Him. None of the disciples knew who it was, but Jesus did. Jesus knew the one who would betray Him was Judas. Knowing this, Jesus told Judas to go and do what he must do. After saying this, Judas left to collect the 30 pieces of silver the high priests were going to pay him for betraying Jesus. Judas was also going to tell the high priests where Jesus would be so they could arrest Him.
When the supper was over, Jesus took some of his disciples out to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Jesus told them to stay at a spot so He could go off to pray by Himself. He took Peter, James and John with him to pray. Even though Jesus was God, His body was human and He knew what was going to happen to Him. He knew He was about to be arrested. He knew He was going to be beaten, and He knew He was going to die on the cross. Jesus knelt on the ground and prayed to His Father. “My Father, if there is any way, get me out of this. But please, not what I want. I want your will to be done.” Jesus got up from praying to find Peter, James and John all sleeping. He was hurt because they had fallen asleep when He was so sad. Currently we are combining the Walkers and Preschool classes as there have been a small number of children in these classes. We are watching attendance closely and as this class grows, are ready to split the Preschoolers into their own classrooms.
The kids are going through a series with Boz the Bear, "Friends and Helpers Lessons." Today they watched "RescueMan to the Rescue" and learned that by sharing things we have, we can help people in need.
Live It: Encourage your child that “even though you’re little, you can do a lot!” Help your child find ways he/she can help others in your home.
Elementary (K - 5th Grade)

Today's lesson was “Who Is This?” Our prayer is that each child will understand that Jesus is King and that we need to worship Him as King by the way we live our lives. They will hear that many years ago, people recognized that Jesus was worthy of praise and worshipped Him on Palm Sunday. They will learn ways to worship Him in what they do and say.
Bible Story: Matthew 21:1-11
Jesus entered Jerusalem for the very last time. The disciples were instructed to go find a donkey and her colt that were tied up outside of town and bring them to Jesus. He then rode on the donkey into the city of Jerusalem. As Jesus made His way into Jerusalem, people began to gather from all around the city. They waved palm branches and laid their coats and palm branches on the ground before Him. This was how they showed honor to Jesus as their King! It was like the people were watching a parade. This parade of people began to follow Jesus and shout “Hosanna,” (or today we would shout “Hooray!”) which was a shout of praise to Jesus. They also yelled, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!” Their excitement continued to follow Jesus as He entered into the city of Jerusalem. When Jesus finally entered the city, the people who did not know Him asked, “Who is this?” The people who knew Jesus said, “It’s Jesus from Nazareth.”
The Child’s Prayer:
Dear Jesus, I pray that I will understand what this Easter season is all about. I know that many years ago people worshipped You with palm branches and were saying, “Hosanna” to You. Currently we are combining the Walkers and Preschool classes as there have been a small number of children in these classes. We are watching attendance closely and as this class grows, are ready to split the Preschoolers into their own classrooms.
The kids are going through a series with Boz the Bear, "Color and Shape Lessons." Today they watched "Counting on God’s Love" and learned that they can count the different ways that God shows us His love, and ways that we can show God we love Him.
Live It: Ask your child, what are some ways God shows He loves them? How can your child show his/her love for God?
Elementary (K - 5th Grade)

The kids are in a series called "Treasure Quest" Today's lesson was on A Serving Heart. Our prayer is that each child will understand that as they seek after Jesus, they will develop the desire to serve Him. Jesus wants us to serve Him by helping others. He will give them many opportunities to serve.
Bible Story: John 6:5-13
Jesus saw a great crowd coming toward Him. There were about 5,000 men in the crowd. Jesus asked Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” Jesus was only testing Philip because He already knew what He was going to do. Philip was doubtful. He didn’t think there was any chance of feeding all of the people. Another disciple, Andrew, saw a boy who was willing to give his lunch of five small loaves of bread and two fish. Andrew asked Jesus, “But how far will this go?” Andrew was doubtful, too. Jesus then asked His disciples to have all the men sit on the grass. The boy gave Jesus his food, and Jesus blessed it. They gave thanks and passed the bread and fish to all the men in the crowd. It fed everyone! After they were finished, the disciples gathered the leftovers. Jesus said, “Don’t let anything be wasted.” They filled twelve more baskets with what was left over. Although Philip was doubtful, God was able to serve all the people because of one little boy who was willing to give all he had to Jesus.
Key Point:
The boy in this story had a serving heart. He could have kept the bread for himself, but he didn’t. He saw that people were hungry and there was nothing for them to eat, so he did something about it. The key to unlocking the truth of this story is the more we seek after Jesus, the more we will be like Him. Then we will understand how to serve Jesus by helping people in need.

Our prayer is that each child will understand that as they seek after Jesus, they will learn to appreciate and be more thankful for the things He has given them and done for them. They will realize that Jesus will always answer their prayers, not always in the way that they want, but in the way that is best for their character.
Bible Story: Luke 17:11-19
Jesus and his disciples were on their way to Jerusalem. As they came closer to the village, ten men who had a bad skin disease called leprosy came to meet them. The men were considered “unclean” because of their illness, so they kept their distance. They called out to Jesus, “Master, have pity on us and make us well.” Jesus responded, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” The men did as Jesus had instructed, and as they went, they were healed. Then one of them hurried back to Jesus. He began loudly praising God and falling down at Jesus’ feet, thanking Him. Jesus asked, “Were not all ten of you healed? Where are the other nine?” He said to the man at His feet, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
Key Point:
As my faith in Jesus grows, I can appreciate Jesus more for what He does for me.

And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus. Colossians 3:17b (NCV)

Our prayer is that each child will understand that as they seek after Jesus, He will bring joy and enthusiasm into their lives. As they get to know Jesus, they will see their life has a purpose. This purpose will deepen their faith and give them more joy as they continue their journey in life.
Bible Story: Luke 19:1-9
Jesus entered Jericho and made His way through the town. A man named Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus. Zacchaeus was one of the most powerful Jewish men in the Roman tax-collecting business, and he had become very rich. Zacchaeus tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowds. So Zacchaeus ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree beside the road; he watched Jesus from there. When Jesus came by, He looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name, “Zacchaeus!” He said, “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” But the crowd was mad at hearing this. “He has gone to be the guest of a well-known sinner,” they grumbled. Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, and if I have overcharged people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today.”
Key Point:
As I follow Jesus and learn more about Him, I will have an enthusiastic and joyful heart. This will help me treat others with kindness.

Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically. Romans 12:11b (NLT)

Our prayer is that each child will learn that when they seek after Jesus, they will understand more about how to respect and honor others around them. Getting to know Jesus will help them to see others like He sees them. Following Jesus will help them to treat others the way He does. Children will realize that a person who seeks Jesus has a heart of respect towards others.
Bible Story: Mark 10:13-16
People were seeking out Jesus and bringing their children to Him, hoping Jesus would bless them by placing His hands on them and praying for them. The disciples were annoyed with the interruptions and felt Jesus had more important things to do than spend time with children. They began to stop the parents from bringing the children to Jesus, but Jesus was not pleased with the disciples’ attitude and he scolded them. He told them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” He then went on to tell the disciples that to enter the Kingdom of God, you must accept Christ with the same faith as a child. The kids are in a series called "Treasure Quest." Today's lesson was on A Respectful Heart. Our prayer is that each child will learn that when they seek after Jesus, they will understand more about how to respect and honor others around them. Getting to know Jesus will help them to see others like He sees them. Following Jesus will help them to treat others the way He does. Children will realize that a person who seeks Jesus has a heart of respect towards others.
Bible Story: Mark 10:13-16
People were seeking out Jesus and bringing their children to Him, hoping Jesus would bless them by placing His hands on them and praying for them. The disciples were annoyed with the interruptions and felt Jesus had more important things to do than spend time with children. They began to stop the parents from bringing the children to Jesus, but Jesus was not pleased with the disciples’ attitude and he scolded them. He told them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” He then went on to tell the disciples that to enter the Kingdom of God, you must accept Christ with the same faith as a child. Walkers/Preschool
Currently we are combining the Walkers and Preschool classes as there have been a small number of children in these classes. We are watching attendance closely and as this class grows, are ready to split the Preschoolers into their own classrooms.
The kids are going through a series with Boz the Bear, "Thank you God for Friends and Helpers." Today they watched "Doing Our Fair Share" and learned how to serve others.
Live It: This week, look for ways you can help a friend or family member in need.

The kids started a series called "Treasure Quest." Today's lesson was on A Trusting Heart. Each child will understand that as they seek after Jesus, they will learn to trust Him more and more. He will be the One they can count on to guide and strengthen them in all areas of their lives.
Bible Story:
One day, Jesus was traveling to the city of Capernaum. The servant of a captain in the Roman army was very sick and close to dying. When the captain heard that Jesus would be coming his way, the captain went seeking after Jesus. He had faith and knew that Jesus could heal his servant. When the captain found Jesus, the captain told Jesus that he believed and trusted that He could heal his servant just by Jesus’ words; and that He did not even need to come to his house to heal his servant! Jesus was impressed with the captain’s faith and trust in Him. He had not seen faith like this. So, Jesus told the captain to go home, his servant would be well again because he believed and trusted Jesus. The servant was healed that very hour. (Source: Matthew 8:5-13)

Bible Story: Jesus taught His friends about God when He was young. We heard the story from Luke 2:42-52 where Jesus went to Jerusalem with His parents and ended up going to the temple and teaching everyone about God.
Remember Verse: I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. Proverbs 4:2
Live It: This week, look for ways you can help another person learn this week.

Bible Story: (1 Kings 15:10-24, 2 Chronicles 14-16)
King Asa was a man who worshipped God. He went from town to town tearing down false idols that other people worshipped. He even removed his own grandmother from being the Queen because she didn’t worship God. God rewarded King Asa for his love for Him. He brought peace to the land that King Asa lived in. King Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the God. He was faithful to God and God continued to bless him. However, when King Asa grew old, he turned from God and he was punished. He suffered and so did his land. It’s important to worship God our entire life.
Key Point:
When we worship God we show our love for Him. We worship God through our actions. Praying, singing, and making right choices are all acts of worship! Our prayer is that each child will see God as the focus of their life and will take active steps to show their love for Him, by living a life of worship to Him.

Bible Story: Acts 25-26
Paul knew that his message of God's love needed to spread throughout the land. Paul's desire to please God was obvious, and his words were a light from God. He was not worried about what other people thought about him, it only mattered that Paul was pleasing God.
Key Point:
Paul's fire for Jesus burned brightly so others could see his new life. Our words and actions are a light to others. When we are kind to others we let our light shine.
Memory Verse:
Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders, making the most of every opportunity.
Colossians 4:5
Live It:
1. Can I show God's fire light in my life to others?
2. How can I show the light?
3. Does God need me to show His light? Why?

The kids are going through a series with Boz the Bear, "Thank You God for Friends and Helpers." Today they watched RescueMan to the Rescue and learned how to share with others in need.

The kids are continuing a series called "What's Bugging You." Today's topic was on Serving. It is our prayer that the kids understand that they were created to help and serve others, and as we do that we are really serving God.
Bible Story:
Miriam was a young Hebrew girl who served God by doing an important job. Miriam's task was to make sure baby Moses floated down the Nile River in his basket safely. During this time, the Egyptian rulers didn't want any newborn sons of Jewish families to survive. Sending baby Moses down the river was the only way to keep him out of harm's way. Even though Miriam was small and young, her service of protecting her brother was very important. An Egyptian princess found baby Moses at the end of the river and wanted him for her own. Miriam continued to serve by making sure the princess had a nurse to help her with the baby. This nurse was Moses' real mother! Miriam's purpose was simple and straight forward: to serve by being responsible for her brother's safety. Even serving on a small scale can lead to great outcomes! (Exodus 2)
Key Point:
When we serve others, even in the simplest way, we bring joy to God.
Memory Verse:
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others. 1 Peter 4:10 NIV
Live It:
1. How can you "serve" in your own home?
2. How do you think you might feel after serving?
3. Where can you volunteer your time to serve God?
