Nursery

Babies at Canyon Church are shown the love of God by being played with, held and cared for.

Walkers & Preschool
Currently we are combining the Walker and Preschool classes as there have been a small number of children in these classes. We are watching attendance closely and as this class grows, we are ready to split the Preschoolers into their own classroom.

Bible Story:
Mary was going to have a baby. An angel had come to tell Mary about this baby. Her baby would be special. He would be God's Son. When it was time to have her baby, Mary and Joseph had to take a trip. They walked and walked for three days. Finally Mary and Joseph came to Bethlehem. There were so many people that there weren't any rooms left in the motel. There wasn't anywhere else for them to stay. Finally, Mary and Joseph found a place to stay. It wasn't a nice place. It probably wasn't even a clean place. It was a place for animals to stay! Mary's little baby was born there. Mary wrapped the little baby in some clean cloths and then she laid Him in a manger filled with clean straw. Mary and Joseph named this baby Jesus. (taken from Luke 2:1-7.)

Key Point:
We celebrate Christmas because it is Jesus's birthday!

Elementary (Kindergarten - 5th Grade)
This classroom will also be split into smaller classes as attendance continues to grow.

The kids are continuing a series called "What's Bugging You?" Today's topic was on Discipleship. It is our prayer that each child understands the importance of becoming more like Jesus by reading the Bible and praying.

Bible Story:
Jesus personally asked twelve men to be His disciples. James was fishing with his brother John when Jesus asked them to follow Him. They immediately left their boat and followed Jesus to be His disciples. James was with Him on a mountain when God said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. Listen to Him!" James also witnessed Jesus do miracles like raise a girl from the dead. James believed Jesus was God's Son and wanted to become like Christ. He continued to believe even after Jesus died on the cross and was buried. James taught others about Christ even though it was dangerous. (Taken from Matt. 4:21, 17:5, Mark 3:17, 5:37, 14:33, and John 21:1-2)

Key Point:
Disciples aren't only in the Bible. A disciple is anyone who believes in Jesus and decides to become like Him. We can choose to be a disciple. We can choose to become like Jesus by reading the Bible and making wise choices like Jesus teaches us to do.

Memory Verse:
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:5 NIV.

Live It:
1. Why does God want us to follow his Son, Jesus?
2. How can you serve Jesus with your life?
3. Say a prayer before bedtime!

Nursery (0 - 12 mo)

Babies at Canyon Church are shown the love of God by being played with, held and cared for!

Walkers & Preschool (13 mo - 5 yrs)

Currently we are combining the Walker and Preschool classes as there has been a small number of children in these classes. We are watching attendance closely and as this class grows, we are ready to split the Preschoolers into their own classroom.

Today we were able to use our lesson, as our first preschoolers attended! All of the kids learned that they can talk to God like a friend.

Bible Story: 1 Samuel 17:34-37
Before David was a mighty king, he was a shepherd. He talked to God as he watched his sheep! When he faced the giant Goliath he prayed and talked to God. We can be like David and talk to God about what's important to us and what we are afraid of.

Memory Verse:
I pray to you. Answer me because you love me sooo much! Psalm 69:13

Live It: Have your child...Think about something to talk to God about.

Elementary (Kindergarten through 5th grade)

This classroom will also be split into smaller groups as attendance grows.

The kids are continuing a series called "What's Bugging You?" Today they discussed "Fellowship." Our prayer is that each child will see the importance of living with and doing life with others.

Bible Story: Acts Chapter 18
When Paul was traveling on a missionary journey in Greece, he came upon a couple named Aquila and Priscilla. Paul became a close friend with them because they were tentmakers just like Paul had been. Paul helped them by sharing the word of God with them. They even had a chance to travel with Paul and spread God’s word, but they felt most effective providing others a place to worship. In those days, people had churches in their homes. Aquila and Priscilla continued to use their home as a place for people to come and learn about God. It is easy to imagine that anywhere Aquila and Priscilla lived would be a real place of fellowship.

Key Point:
It is important to spend time with other Christians. Fellowship with others is crucial in our relationship with God. When we are feeling down our Christian friends can help us up, and when our friends are feeling down we can help them up!

Memory Verse:
So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:5 NIV

Live It: Have your child...
1. Talk to a you about what the word fellowship means
2. Write down the name of one person they will befriend this week.

In our series, "I Can Talk to God," the kids learned that they can talk to God like a friend!

Memory Verse:

Live It: Have your child...

Think about something you can talk to God about.

Elementary (Kindergarten - 5th grade)

The kids are continuing a series called "What's Bugging You?" Today they discussed "Worship." Our prayer is that each child will see God as the focus of their life and will take active steps to show their love for Him, by living a life of worship to Him.

Bible Story:

King Asa was a man who worshipped God. He went from town to town tearing down false idols that other people worshipped. He even removed his own grandmother from being the Queen because she didn’t worship God. God rewarded King Asa for his love for Him. He brought peace to the land that King Asa lived in. King Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the God. He was faithful to God and God continued to bless him. However, when King Asa grew old, he turned from God and he was punished. He suffered and so did his land. It’s important to worship God our entire life. (1 Kings 15:10-24, 2 Chronicles 14-16)

Key Point:

When we worship God we show our love for Him. We worship God through our actions. Praying, singing, and making right choices are all acts of worship!

Memory Verse:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12:30 NIV

Live It: Have your child...

1. Recite the Bible verse from memory and say it to someone in your family.

2. Write a thank you note to God and show it to someone in your family.

3. Pray once a day this week.

Preschool (3 - 5 yrs)

In our series, "I Can Talk to God," the kids learned that they can talk to God like a friend!

Elementary (K - 5th Grade)

The kids started a series called "What's Bugging You?" Today they discussed the question, "Why Am I Here?" They learned that that God made them for a purpose! God did not make any accidents. Even weird little bugs were part of God’s plan. And if God cares about all the little bugs, then He really cares about us.

Story: God made the earth, space, stars, water, wind, even time, out of nothing–-all He had to do was speak and it happened! After He made everything, God said that it was good. It was all exactly how He planned it, day by day. (Genesis 1)

Key Point: God made your child a certain way with abilities and strengths. No one else is like him/her! God has a unique plan just for your child.

Memory Verse: For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 NIV
